Darryl Way’s Wolf – In Concert At The Paris Theatre, London – 1973 – BBC Radio 1

Some of the lesser luminaries of Prog-Rock tonight, by way of Darryl Way’s Wolf. After leaving late 60’s/early 70s Folk/Prog/Psych band Curved Air, violinist and keyboard player Darryl Way formed Wolf and in the ensuing two years had a moderate amount of success; recording three albums and getting critical acclaim, but only moderate success with audiences, barely making a dent in the U.S.

Solidly in the Prog-Rock vein, along similar lines as Caravan, and to a lesser degree Gong, Wolf’s comparative lack of success was baffling, as Darryl Way was an enormously talented violinist, and the band were tight and accomplished.

This concert, right around the time of their second album, Saturation Point puts the band at the mid-point of their tenure in 1973. The band would break up in 1974, with Way returning to Curved Air for a brief reunion, before splitting again in 1976. Way would make appearances on Jethro Tull’s Heavy Horses album before embarking on a solo career.

But here they are, as recorded by the venerable BBC at The Paris Theatre in London for Radio 1’s In Concert series.

More mysteries and more bands overlooked.
